Dr Susan Nelson, family physician, is leading a medical service team to work in Haiti Nov 10-16 and looking for volunteers to join. We work at St Vincent's School for Handicapped Children in Port au Prince. We run a general pediatric clinic for the 250 students at the school, and a general adult medical clinic for the 60 + staff and teachers. We have been going to the school twice/year since 2008. There are about 80 deaf students, 20-30 blind students, and many children with physical disabilities in wheelchairs, with CP or clubfoot or spina bifida, many varied forms of amelia.
Check out www.wtnhaitipartnership.org for stories and photos from last trip.
This is a great opp for students from all health professional colleges to see medical care provided in an under-resourced setting, plus play with a bunch of kids for a week! We need nurses, pharmacists, therapists, and medical providers. Students with any level of training are welcome. Anyone with sign language skills would be a huge asset.
Team members pay their own expenses, approximately $1200 including airfare, lodging and meals for one week.
You need a current passport and current vaccines against Hep A, B, tetanus and typhoid (this last can be obtained 2 weeks before the trip).
Contact Susan Nelson directly at email@example.com if you are interested.
